DASH - Updating

Install ArcGIS Service Packs¶

Before upating the DASH application, you must first install the latest service pack for ArcGIS. Use the following link to download the service pack files from the ESRI website. Once you have downloaded the appropriate files, double click on them in order to run the installations. Please be aware that installation of these service pack items may take a couple of hours.

Service Pack 4Download and run the following service pack installs:
- ArcGIS Desktop (ArcInfo, ArcEditor, ArcView) (ArcGISDesktop92sp4.msp 176 Mb)
- ArcGIS Server for the Microsoft .Net Framework (ArcGISServerDotNet92sp4.msp 279 Mb)
- Restart your server if and when prompted after running the service pack installations
NOTE: You will need to complete the Post install for this service pack. To do this you will need to have ready:
- The passwords to be used for the ArcGIS Server Accounts (ArcGISSOC, ArcGISSOM, ArcGISWebServices)
- Registration information of who the license is registered to (org, dept, address info)
- The ArcGIS Server License Key (this is a 12 digit code that was used to install ArcGIS Server on your machine)

If you do not know the passwords for the ArcGIS Server Accounts please contact Tom Whitenack at SDSC. You should have provided the ArcGIS Server License Key to SDSC prior to receiving your HIS Server. If you do not know it, you can get it from your ESRI Site Licence Administrator.

Install the lastest version of DASH¶

Download a zip file containing the latest version of the DASH application here: DASH_200802.zip
Stop the Windows IIS service using the following steps:
- Go to START -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services
- Locate the "IIS Admin Service" and stop it by clicking on the stop service link or the stop service button on the toolbar.
- As you stop the service, you may see a message about other services that depend on this service. Make a list of those services. You will need to restart those services later.
Rename your existing DASH application to "DASH_old" using the following steps.
- Using windows explorer navigate to the hard drive location of your DASH application (i.e., P:\WebApplications\Dash).
- Right-click on the "DASH" folder, select "Rename" and change the name of the folder to "DASH_old".
Extract the contents of the downloaded ZIP file to a Directory named "DASH" in your web applications folder (i.e., P:\WebApplications)
- Set Windows permissions on the extracted DASH folder using the following steps:
  - Right click on the DASH folder and select "Properties"
  - Click on the "Security" tab
  - Click the "Add" button to add each of the following users: "ASPNET", "Network Service", "ArcGISSOC",
  - For each of the users that you added, click on the box next to "Modify" in the permissions box to provide the above users with "modify" rights.
  - Make sure that you click on the "Apply" button to apply the settings for each user.
    
    ====Copy your custom configurations from the older version to the new version.====
    If you have added observation networks to your DASH application or if you have modified the default.aspx page you must complete the following steps to ensure that they are preserved in the new application.
HISNetworks.xml
- Copy the HISNetworks.xml file from your older DASH version (located in the /bin directory under your DASH_old folder) to the new one, overwriting the file that exists there.
default.aspx
- Copy the default.aspx file for your older version (located in the DASH_old folder) and overwrite the one in the updated application.
- Open the copied default.aspx file using Visual Studio 2005 (right click and select Open With --> Visual Studio 2005)
- Locate the line:
  <%@ Register Assembly="ESRI.ArcGIS.ADF.Web.UI.WebControls, Version=9.2.0.1324, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=8fc3cc631e44ad86" Namespace="ESRI.ArcGIS.ADF.Web.UI.WebControls" TagPrefix="esri" %>
- Change the version number from "9.2.0.1324" to "9.2.4.1420" so the application will use libraries from the latest service pack
- Save the changes that you just made to the default.aspx file
- NOTE: If you have two lines in your default.aspx file that look like the above but have different version numbers, you should delete one of them and change the version number in the remaining line.
web.config
- Open the web.config file located in your "DASH_old" folder using Visual Studio 2005 (right click on web.config and select Open With --> Microsoft Visual Studio 2005)
- Copy the encrypted identity string block from your old web.config file to the web.config file in the new DASH application folder. You should copy this block of XML code from the old web.config file to the new web.config file, replacing what is in the newer file. Make sure you save the new file after you have made the change. Here is what the block of XML code that you should copy looks like:

Restart the "IIS Admin Service".
- Restart the "IIS Admin Service" in the Services window by selecting it and the clicking on the Start Service button on the toolbar.
- Restart any services that you identified above as being dependent on the IIS Admin Service.
